Church of Ioan Bob of Cluj
About the Church
Its foundation stone was laid in 1798, and in 1800 the first Romanian parish was established, and from the end of the year services began to be held in the Bob Church.
Story
According to the census conducted by the local authorities in 1786, there were already 310 Greek Catholic Romanians (about 100 families) officially living in Cluj-Napoca.In 1790, the Transylvanian government led by Count György Losonczi Bánffy was re-established in Cluj-Napoca, which created the opportunity for the Greek Catholic Bishop of Blaj, Ioan Bob de Copalnic-Mănăștur, a member of the Parliament, to visit Cluj-Napoca.
Parish
Although the parish nowadays has a small number of parishioners (about 250), the church is also attended by people from other parishes in Cluj.
Ioan Bob’s church in Cluj had not only a spiritual and educational but also a cultural, social and national role.
In 2016 it was decided to renovate the church in order to increase the number of visitors.
